First launched to overwhelming acclaim in 2013, the OMEGA Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” collection remains coveted, cherished, and highly sought after by fans of the Swiss brand. In tribute to the Apollo 8 mission of 1968, OMEGA has produced a special version of the wristwatch with a number of innovative details.
The 44.25 mm commemorative chronograph includes a blackened movement, which has been laser ablated to represent the moon’s surface. The near side can be seen through the blackened skeletonised dial, while the far side can be seen through the caseback. Presented on a perforated black leather strap with a yellow rubber interior, the entire chrono is black ceramic and includes varnished yellow chronograph hands, a tachymeter scale in white “Grand Feu” enamel, and a small‑seconds hand at 9 o’clock that is inspired by the Saturn V rocket.
For this luxury Swiss watch, the specially decorated movement inside is the OMEGA Co‑Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869, while the engravings on the caseback include “APOLLO 8, DEC 1968”, “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON”, and “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.”
