An Inspiring Italian Athlete

Gianmarco Tamberi is an Italian high jumper and the current Olympic champion. He was coached by his father Marco Tamberi until 2022, who held the indoor Italian record in 1983, but has established his own style and success throughout his career.

Tamberi was unable to compete at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 due to an injury earlier in the season, however at Tokyo 2020, he was declared the tied winner of the men's high jump along with Qatari athlete Mutaz Essa Barshim. In that event, both athletes cleared 2.37m for the gold medal, in a rare instance in Olympic history where the athletes of different nations agreed to share the same victory.

In 2022 he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championhsips and just months later became European Champion.
