Snoopy has been NASA’s safety watchdog since the 1960s. In particular, their “Silver Snoopy Award” has become the ultimate thank you for mission success. This prestigious prize was presented to OMEGA in 1970 for the watchmaker’s role in space exploration – including its critical contribution to the safe return of Apollo 13.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of that achievement, OMEGA released the Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch. The stainless steel case of this 42 mm chronograph is presented on a blue nylon fabric strap, which features the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission on the embossed lining. The silver dial has blue PVD angle‑shaped hour markers and hands, as well as an embossed silver Snoopy medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock.
On the caseback of this luxury Swiss watch, Snoopy has gone into orbit, thanks to his animated black and white Command and Service Module (CSM) on a magical hand. When the chronograph seconds hand is used, Snoopy takes a trip around the mysterious far side of the moon, which has been decorated on the scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal using a micro‑structured metallisation. In the distance, an Earth disc rotates once per minute, in sync with the watch’s small seconds hand.
There is also a blue ceramic bezel ring with a white enamel tachymeter scale. The non‑limited watch is driven by the OMEGA Co‑Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 for ultimate precision and magnetic‑resistance.
