The occasion was an opportunity for the two Privateer founders to discover OMEGA’s on-site manufacture and spend time with the brand it has worked alongside since 2022.
OMEGA’s partnership with Privateer is based on a shared passion for space, and for keeping the orbital highways above our planet open for the next generation of satellites and human explorers. Currently, there are thousands of dead satellites and pieces of debris in space that pose a risk to manned spacecraft, as well as the essential services that Earth relies on, such as GPS and climate monitoring. To help future operators manoeuvre safely and responsibly, Privateer has created a data infrastructure that provides a real-time map of all the satellites and human-made debris surrounding Earth. Best of all, it is open and free to use for everyone.
For OMEGA, working with Privateer is a chance to extend the brand’s famous space heritage, and give it a progressive direction for the future. As sustainably becomes more important than ever on Earth, including within our own watchmaking processes, it’s vital to consider the role that space plays in the overall goal.
“What we do at Privateer looks quite different from watchmaking, but we both value the delicate balance between ingenuity and craftsmanship in our work.”
The two guests were given a personal tour of the OMEGA Factory – an advanced facility, spread over five floors, which brings the brand’s technical innovation and human expertise together for a fully streamlined manufacturing process. Both Steve and Alex are personal fans of OMEGA watches and showed their delight at seeing the attention to detail in each step of the watchmaking process.
They also expressed their admiration for OMEGA’s own space history, which encompasses many of the most iconic missions since 1965 including all six Moon landings. For both Privateer founders, and OMEGA, it was a joy to reflect on the past while also looking ahead to the future.
